The Urban Land Institute defines "workforce housing" as housing that is affordable for households earning between 60 and 120 percent of area median income (AMI). Live on 1st targets households making 80% AMI.
These middle-income earners have positions as teachers, firefighters, police officers, retail clerks, and the like. Often, these households make too much to receive affordable housing subsidies. Yet, at the same time, they earn too little to save or qualify to buy their own home.
